We are learning that life in the NICU has its ups and downs. After struggling to wean Holden off of the nasal cannula this past week, doctors determined that he has Brochopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD), which is a reaction of the premature lung and to the oxygen and mechanical ventilation that were needed to treat him at birth. They will treat the BPD with extra oxygen, medication and give Holden more time for his lungs to mature/heal.
The little munchkin has been doing great today. He seems more comfortable and alert. Holden was able to spend time with Mommy, Daddy, Mimi and Grandpa this weekend. He loves being held!!
