It has been over four years now since Holden joined our family. His journey started off bumpy and he's had to overcome some health challenges. But the Little Monkey continues to fight his way to becoming strong and healthy. We are so blessed to have him as our son. He inspires us and melts our hearts every day. Thank you for joining us on this journey. We've appreciated everyone's thoughts and prayers.

Baby Holden Update

The little champ drank his whole bottle today (40ccs). While he has done well in the past, this was the first time he drank the whole bottle within the 20 minutes time limit. Way to go Holden!!

The little munchkin was fussy last night and nurses think he is having some reflux. We think he's learned how to get the nurses, Mommy & Daddy to hold him whenever his wants (just kidding!).

As you can see from the photo of Holden in his crib, we now have a lot more to calm or entertain him. When he's not sleeping, he loves looking up at his safari mobile! We'll be sure to post some pictures of Holden in his Easter outfit tomorrow!

Baby Holden Update

Holden looked adorable today in his safari sleeper. He did great with his bottle feeding and after feel fast sleep in Mommy's arms.

Tonight, doctors will start Holden on a medication to try to decrease the pulmonary hypertension. Please say an extra prayer that the meds help. By decreasing the pressure in his chest and expanding his airways, his breathing should improve and he should be able to wean off of the oxygen/nasal cannula.

They will do another echocardiogram on Monday to see if there has been any improvement.

Happy Easter to all of our friends and family. Mommy, Daddy and Holden plan to spend the day together!

Baby Holden Update

Holden enjoyed some snuggle time today with Grandma Rosanne.
He also liked watching the rain forest aquarium Mommy got him. It plays neat music and has cool lights. He was a happy camper sitting in his bouncy chair watching the aquarium.

Doctors did another echocardiogram today to check the pressure in Holden's lungs/chest. Unfortunately, there has not been much improvement over the last couple of days. There are some medications they will try if things do not improve soon. We're saying our prayers that the pressure will decrease over time, so Holden can soon breath without needing any additional oxygen.

Baby Holden Update

No major updates today. Holden has lost a couple of ounces, due to medication doctors have him on for his lungs. They will increase his feedings tomorrow to help him put on more weight.

He was sleepy during his bottle feeding today, however, he still did well drinking over 21 ccs. The therapist taught Mommy and Daddy how to do baby massage. Holden looked very content!!

The little munchkin likes having things in his crib to look at. In this photo he is talking to Big Nutbrown Hair (from the book "Guess How Much I Love You). We also pretend it is the Easter Bunny, since Easter is this weekend!

Baby Holden Update

Our little champ did great with his bottle today. He drank 34ccs in 20 minutes and is really getting the hang of the "suck, swallow, breathe" coordination.

Holden loved his time with Grandma Deda these past couple of days and looks forward to her next visit. He was moved into a big boy crib today. We are going to add a musical mobile and crib mirror to give the little pumpkin more
to entertain himself!

Baby Holden Update

We are learning that life in the NICU has its ups and downs. After struggling to wean Holden off of the nasal cannula this past week, doctors determined that he has Brochopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD), which is a reaction of the premature lung and to the oxygen and mechanical ventilation that were needed to treat him at birth. They will treat the BPD with extra oxygen, medication and give Holden more time for his lungs to mature/heal.

The little munchkin has been doing great today. He seems more comfortable and alert. Holden was able to spend time with Mommy, Daddy, Mimi and Grandpa this weekend. He loves being held!!
